Creative Chemistry 101 Day Ten Finished Projects

Lucky last. Not sure how I feel about this one. Think I need to watch some tattered florals flower making tuts lol. I turned this one into a mothers day card seeing as that is coming up in May for us in Australia.

The flower is made with all four layers of the tattered florals die from grungepaper. Coloured with a combo of ranger pigment inks and and stazon. Then they have been rock candied and shimmer painted.

A close up of the flower and the swarovski danglies and rose at the end. The flower centre is a Making Memories bling brad.

The background stamp is from stampin' up.

Well that's all folks. All for now at any rate. Got loads of study and cleaning in the next week. Having a visitor from the UK over and modules due on Thursday lol. Busy Busy. I have a few blogs ready to post though and I am sure I will be about :)

Creative Chemistry 101 Day Seven Finished Projects

Day seven was a witch for me lol. Only one project to upload today But I love it :) I added swarovski crystals . . . Bling Bling Bling. . .

Here is a before shot,

and the completed card with the swarovski crystal chandelier drops :) What can I say. I love my bling lol. I used black brads to anchor the chains for the crystals.

Only four more cards to share then I might be able to sleep lol :)

Beaded Flower Spray

Ok so as you can see I have been having fun with lately! I was following links and came across one from Wild Orchid Crafts for Floral Bead Sprays. So I decided to give it  a go :) With my own flavour  added of course lol.

I gathered some beads, iamroses flowers in various sizes (all white) and beading wire and set  off on an adventure lol. I, loving butterfly's, had decided this time I must have a butterfly. I resisted the urge on my previous bead sprays so now was the time! I also decided my favourite colour, purple, would be my colour of choice.

Supplies in hand and working on my twist, the first things I grabbed were the butterfly and a rose bud. I wanted my rose bud to be the top of my spray so had to work out how to incorporate the butterfly and rose in reverse order to the video instructions.

I started with my butterfly bead as per the video instructions for beads but only gave a little twist to the wires underneath. I then stuck the long stem from my rosebud through the butterfly and incorporated it into the twisting wires.

I then made  four more bead/flower  combos one bead and flower on each. However after  I twisted  it all together it looked wrong to me lol.  I grabbed two more  itty roses and twisted them onto the two stems that felt too long and bare lol...

I coloured my flowers using dusty concord distress stain on the tips and then spraying with home made pearl mist.

My 8 yr old daughter took some pics for me :) I will add  one that  shows the whole thing when my camera batteries charge :)

Home Made Decorative Pins

Hello again! I hope everyone is having a good weekend :) Something else I have been making over the last few weeks are decorative pins, stick pins, hat pins, whatever name you happen to call them by lol.

All you need to make these are pins, beads glue and/or crimp beads. As I don't own crimp beads I used glue. Glossy Accents or Dimensional Magic depending on what was closer but any clear drying glue would work.

The first series of pin use a flower bead cap and 5cm long pins. All I did was put a drop of glue on the pin shaft and then slide the bead up. I did that for each bead so they would be held securely in place.

The next ones have an added dangly with a charm on the end. I started using jump rings but then thanks to a friend, who I showed how to make the pins, I realised I could just slip the chain right on the pin shaft for a less bulky look. Some of the pins are 5cm some are smaller. The smaller ones are regular pins I picked up at a junk shop.

The last pin is just a small one. My friend gave me some teeny butterflies. They make the cutest pins! I am trying to find some of these butterflies  on ebay... No luck so far!

I love making these things!  The only draw back is finding the longer pins in Australia. I have found loads on ebay but post kills lol. Hopefully I can get some more when I go to Sydney lol. Anyways I hope you like my pins.

Home Made Bead Sprays

Well I found a tutorial on youtube to make my own bead sprays. So I had to try it out as bead sprays are not something I would usually buy. They are after all a bit on the expensive side. The lady who I am emulating is Leanne from LovleeScrappin. Click the link to see her tutorial. It is very clear and well done :)

 My first effort is well... Iffy at best lol. Not bad for my first try I guess. Of course I didn't follow directly what Leanne said soo erm yeah anyways... here it is.

My next effort was much better, however I had the wire break along the way. Twisted too tight I guess. I had to undo that section and reattach the wire to the main body... That was fun for a non beader lol. I know no secrets. So what I did was add the blue bead in the middle and used that to anchor the broken wire to and reintegrate it into the spray. I added another bead in the middle because I thought one looked weird lol.

Then I decided to try one more time and do something different. I added extra beads to each line, all except one have three beads on each arm. I added a bead at the bottom to finish it off. As you can see by my spacing I am learning as I go. I will get there in the end! lol

None of the ones I have made tonight have any colour theme. I was just playing and learning how to make the sprays. I'd still like to try and work out how to get the effect I was going for in the first one to work but as a non beader I am happy with baby steps!

The first and last sprays were made with swarovski crystals. The middle one was made with acrylic beads.

12 Cards of Christmas T!m Holtz Style Card 10

So this one ended up being a real challenge. Cannot tell you how many different things I tried with it lol. I kept wrecking my tape or the image on the tape. I can also tell you gold leaf looked horrid on the back :). My 8 year old helped by deciding the placement of the bow and beads. Little artist in the making :). Here is my inspiration from T!m...

Card 10


We first off with this one my packaging tape was MIA lol so my daughter nicely got me some on town. I have at least 2 rolls hiding in the house somewhere all ready... but what can you do? lol.

I was making the tape images one at a time so I actually ended up making about seven images all at once to make sure I could try  different techniques and have standby's in case I wrecked them some more :) lol.

To start off I didn't have any facets (I did get some in the mail from ebay after I completed this card of course!) so I grabbed a couple of round buckle-ups and ties from one heart one mind. The paper pictured is a kaisercraft one but poor santa had gold leaf put behind him and you couldn't see him anymore lol.

I positioned my acrylic piece over a santa so that he was centred and  then cut a larger square around him. For the seven I did later I used a marker and drew a large circle around my image to cut out.

I then added my tape to the image. Make sure you put the tape over the side of the image you want to use. I made the image stick to the craft mat by making the tape larger. I the used my finger to "burnish" the image. Basically that means rubbing my finger or thumb over the tape til it is really well adhered to the image. I then cut the excess  tape off  and threw it in a bowl of warm water. Scary I know!

Make sure paper side is down soaking under the water and then use your fingers to begin rubbing the paper off. Try not to use your nails as this will scratch the image off the tape. As T!m says "rub til it squeaks". Make sure you get all the paper off then take out and dab some of the moisture off carefully.

This is where we say good by too this image as I killed it after the next step by trying gold leaf lol. Hello new image :) Another thing I learnt was definitely to adhere your tape to acrylic before doing anything else!  So use a small amount of glossy accents or a similar glue like diamond glaze etc on your acrylic piece and place over the image. The sticky side should be facing down and shiny side up as this is the side you add the tile to. Set aside for 30 minutes to dry and then flip the chip and image over. Carefully rub your fingers over the image to push any trapped spots of glossy out. Leave to finish drying. I used this technique to also make a smaller acrylic tile.

While that was drying I started on my background. I grabbed my Iced Spruce distress pad and covered a yellow piece of cardstock with it direct from pad to paper.

I then used the water flinging technique to add large droplets of water to my background and dried with my heat tool and then added Evergreen Bough distress stain to the edges with my ink blending tool.

I  repeated again with Festive Berries. Wow just realised I used the complete winter set on this tag :) Go me!

I grabbed a stamp I picked up for $2 at spotlight by fundamentals and my Evergreen Bough distress pad and flipped my image sideways to stamp a series of the image accross.

Off on a picture hunt seem to be missing some eep lo.. Ok sorry :( the pics MIA. So I will describe what I did next. I cut some letters with my cuttlebug using  two different fonts. I cut "Christmas" with the alphabet from the Holly Jolly giftset. I cut "Joy" from the Sizzix Sizzlits  Curls and Swirls alphabet.

I then got back to my ornament. I flipped it over and used a generous amount of Pearl Mixative and my distress tool to cover the back. Make sure to use a generous amount if you try this way or it starts to lift the image off the tape. I found the photo's Yay!

I used Multi-Medium Matte to glue down the the letters and then covered them with glossy accents. I left the "o" out as I had decided to replace it with another ornament.

I grabbed some thin red ribbon from my stash and looped some through my ornaments, leaving the tails nice and long. I made two bows, one small one larger. I adhered the bows with glossy.

I used regular tape to hold these on the back of the background so they could be pulled off and kept as ornaments and uses a small amount of repositional tape to stop then moving about too much. On reflection I would use some multi-medium or something like that  on the back of the ornaments after the alcohol ink to seal them. 

It still looked a bit plain so I grabbed a thin piece of tinsel from the christmas tree... lol. Four jump rings ,some beads and some tulle. I used beading tools and head pins on my three bead, the beads are two glass pearl 8mm beads and 1 Swarovski crystal, I createted loops and added a jump ring to each. With the last jump ring I opened it up wide and placed the tinsel inside and then added the three beads, red, crystal, red and closed it up.

I cut a thin strip of tulle, maybe 1"/2.5cm wide freehand and turned it into a bow. I glued this to the tinsel above the beads with glossy on miss 8's orders lol. And card done :).

12 Cards of Christmas T!m Holtz Style Card 2

Today in my endeavor to play catch up I started my card version of Tag 2. This was my inspiration...

Card 2


I chose some music note paper from the Kaisercraft Black and White Timeless 6.5"x6.5" paper pad.

I then coloured it with Evergreen Bough Distress Ink Pad by swiping it across the paper, to lighten the colour I spritzed with water and dabbed with paper towel, I then spritzed again with my home made pearl glimmer mist.

I dried this with my heat gun. then chose some Inkadinkado and some Recollections stamps. I used my Versamark pad and then Ranger Super Fine Embossing powder to create my own resist effect.

I used my Snow Cap Distress Stain all over the paper and then dabbed the embossed areas with a damp paper towel so these areas then became more visible.

I grabbed a sheet of Grungeboard and my Tim Holtz Sizzix On The Edge Bracket Die, I made sure to move the grungeboard a fair way onto the die without it touching the large bracket cutting area. I used tape to hold the grunge in place over the small bracket and then ran it through my Cuttlebug.

I used both the positive and the negative from the cut to create both a top and bottom border for my background, you can see in the pic how they fit back together. I painted both pieces with silver Adirondack Paint Dabber, waited for it to dry and then sanded with Heidi Swapp sand paper, paying close attention to the edges. I then swiped Festive Berries Distress Ink pad over both pieces.

Using my ecraft I cut an ornament svg I found for free on the net (thanks to whomevers svg it was, I have so many I have lost track of where they have come from lol) from the leftover music paper. I then coloured the ornament by tapping my Festive Berries Distress Ink pad on my Ranger Craft Sheet and spritzing with my homemade pearl mist. I then dragged the ornament through the pool of shimmery colour making sure to get an even coverage. The colour came out too light the first time so I repeated the process using less water.

I cut the same ornament again with my ecraft only this time I used heavy red cardstock. I glued the two pieces together using Multi-Medium Matte.

I coloured part of a plain sheet of cardstock with Evergreen Bough Distress Ink and mist and then dried very well. I used ecraft again to cut out a bird and flourish image. As you can see in the following image I cut the svg into two pieces.

Using Multi-Medium Matte I adhered these to the christmas Ornament. I then used a Crop - a - Dile to place a large star eyelet into the top of the ornament. The silver was a bit too bright so I painted over it with the silver dabber then painted a little around the edges of the ornament as well. I used a paint brush on the tight corners as the dabber couldn't get in there lol.

I found some eyelets and brads pretty close in colour to the whitewashed background. Using a ruler for the brads I measured 1cm in from each end of the piece of painted grunge I decided to use for my bottom border and pierced a hole with a paper piercer. I then measured the midway point and pierced another hole. I measured between the edge and centre hole on both sides and placed two more holes at the midway point on each side. I then inserted brads into each of these five holes. I then used multi medium again to glue this to the background (in hindsight I should have used glossy accents as I had to add extra glue and hold for a good while lol).

For the top border I used the grungeboard a guide, placing eyelets above the three points. one on each end and one in the middle.

I used the silver paint dabber again to dull down the brightness of some silver chain and jump rings.

I then used my beading tools, two jump rings, some of the chain and a lobster claw clasp I had also dabbed some silver paint onto, to secure the ornament through the middle eyelet of my top border. Thus creating a removable tree ornament :)

For the two end eyelets I made a string of Swarovski crytsal beads. Two red and one half dipped silver on each end. I again used my paint dabber on the chain and jump rings but forgot to do the head pins... Oops! lol. I tried gluing the border down with multi-medium but had no joy so I used trusty Glossy Accents instead!

I then stuck this to my card base using double sided tape :) Yay another completed Card.

As you can see in the next pic, even once the ornament is removed the recipient will still be left with a nice card :) So in effect it is a Christmas card and mini gift in one.
