Revisiting My Butterfly Canvas

Ok so last year I did a post Here about a butterfly canvas... What most people didn't know was that I wasn't wholly happy with it and the butterflies and bling weren't stuck down! lol. I had known all along I was going to give it to my friend for her birthday which was last week. So yep, you guessed it, I pulled it back out again and set to work
I added a stencilled border around the outside with Royal Purple Stazon and Tim Holtz' Honeycomb stencil, changed the lighter butterflies bling to a pale pink as well as the antennae and blinged out the background for a more finished look!
Hope you enjoyed the revisit!

Purple Tattered Angel Butterfly Canvas

Hi everyone :) This week it's my turn to host the Eclectic Ellapu challenge. My challenge is shades of PURPLE with the main focus being butterflies. I would also like to see one of the following, brads buttons or bling. Bling can take the form of anything from shimmer mists to rhinestones and anything in between :)
I started by grabbing my purple distress supplies. I used Milled Lavender, Shaded Lilac, Dusty Concord and Seedless Preserves in both stain form and ink pads. I also used Brushed Pewter Distress Stain for some sparkle. Onto some watercolour paper I used Royal Purple Stazon to stamp my Tattered Angels In Flight Butterfly. I used a distress stain bottle to shape the wings.

I then used the stains on my craft mat with a spritz of water to colour the butterflies with my Tim Holtz waterbrush . The lightest colour is milled lavender, the middle colour is dusty concord and the outer colour is seedless preerves. I used my gathered twigs ink pad to colour the butterfly bodies.
For the canvas I laid down my five stains randomly and then spritzed with water. I used paper towel to blot the excess and lighten the background up a bit. The paper towel helped to give a nice texture as well. I then used dusty concord and seedless preserves around the edges.
I then used the butterfly stencil from Tattered Angels Fanciful Stencils and a sponge dauber with milled lavender and inked the inside parts of the stencil. I then used the stamp again with the milled lavender to stamp over each butterfly. I wasn't looking to line things up perfectly, just to add a bit of interest to the background.
I used See Dee's Monarch stamps over the background. For the large flourish I started with my lightest colour at the top (lilac) then added dusty to the middle and seedless at the bottom (worked lightest to darkest). I then stamped some of the butterflies with seedless.
I used a home made glimmer glaze all over the butterflies for some serious sparkle. It consists of iridescent medium, triple thick and a little water. If you ever need more sparkle try some iridescent medium! Love that stuff. I then did two coats of triple thick over them and left them to dry for 24hrs.
I used some beading wire and 2 or 3mm Miracle Beads to make antennae for my butterflies. I used some tape to hold them on the back. I added some rhinestones to the butterfly wings and some dangly butterfly charms from the body. The charms were coloured with promarkers and copics.
I wanted to add words but have hit a brick wall lol . . . I know where I want to add them but am not sure if it will ruin the piece or even really how to add them in so they don't. For now I am leaving as is and if I get a brainwave I will add them if not, well I guess it's done lol.
Hope you enjoyed another canvas. Next week will be something different, promise!

I had to add this pic so you could see how the iridescent medium sparkles! It doesn't show up so much in the other pics. You can also see a lil of the sparkle on the canvas itself from the brushed pewter stain . . .

12 Cards of Christmas T!m Holtz Style Card 9

So here is card 9... Almost there.. Chugga Chuggin along lol. I had to change this up a bit as I don't have these Tim things lol. I even used my seedless preserves. Yummy! Lots of eCraft cutting going on in this card :) Got to love my purpleberry! So here is T!ms tag and my inspiration...

Card 9

Well I don't have the stamp Tim used or the dies so I decided that I would do a similar design to his using what I have. I think of all my cards this is the one that closest resembles his tag.

I started by using my fiskars stamp, sorry cannot remember the name at the moment lol, I stamped with Seedless Preserves from the autumn set (I had to sneak it in somewhere or my name isn't purple!!!), then covered with Ranger Superfine Embossing Powder.

Next up I grabbed my Evergreen Bough Distress Ink and my Distress Ink tool and covered the whole page. As we have already embossed the purple it acts as a resist. I then dumped more embossing powder over and heated with my heat tool. I love this technique so much I think I want to try it some more!

I then went on a mad hunt through my svg's to find one to use. I found a different lamp post to the one I used on card 7 but some of the lines were so thin they just did not cut properly. So I gave up on that idea and found a candlestick and candle instead. I love SCAL 3 for the fact I can ungroup images and hide some til I want to use them! Unfortunately I did not label svg's as I downloaded them so my free ones I have no idea where they came from :( Thanks to whoever designed the candle and candlestick svg I used. Below is the image I wanted to use :(

I opened the file in SCAL 3 and hid the base to cut the candle out of white cs, I then unhid the base and hid the candle and cut this out of black cs. I had tried a red candle but it just wasn't working.

I grabbed a recollections star and flourish stamp from the merry merry set and stamped my candle with Festive Berries. I embossed this with Ranger superfine and then glued to my base with Glossy Accents.

I grabbed a flower I had made when I was working on card 1. This Poinsettia is red and I have painted over it with Triple Thick to give it that nice shiny effect. I cut more leaves using Fundamentals 1 on my ecraft. The Poinsettia has yellow seed beeds in the middle and is made the same way as in Card 1.

With my pastel Bic Permanent markers i coloured in a piece of scrap shrinkies I cut in the shape of a flame and shrunk it with my heat tool.

I glued the flame down with glossy and the added little drops of glossy to the wreath I had leftover from cards 3 and 5. I then added red seed beads to take away the plainness.

I chose a font in SCAL3 and cut the word Christmas out of black cs. I adhered it to my card and covered in Glossy Accents. After I added the glossy I set this aside to dry in a warm spot for a while.

So once the card dried and I replaced the seed bead that had fallen off.... Card 9 was finished. As I said before this one is the closest to T!m's that I made. I really have tried to make mine somewhat different :)

Hope you are enjoying my 12 cards so far :) the people that are receiving them are loving them at least :) Please leave a message and a link to your blog iff you are enjoying my cards!
Thanks

Home Made Glimmer Glaze and Glimmer Glam Tutorial

I did another you tube video showing some ways I have made these at home myself. I have managed to use a wide range of colour mediums to make my glaze/glam.

The two most important things I have used have been Triple Thick Glaze and Iridescent Medium. I use Reeves Iridescent Medium, however I am sure you can use whatever brand you can find. I am still waiting for my Multi Medium Gloss to arrive and when it does I am going to try that Instead of the Triple Thick.

Colour mediums I have used are Distress Ink reinker, Stampin' Up reinker, Stazon reinker, Adirondack Pigment reinker, Plaid Paint, Color Wash and Alcohol Ink (the most dramatic change in the colour).
The picture below shows the different colours I have used and what medium.

The peeled paint I made shows the difference in colour in relation to the amount of drops used. The mushroom color wash and the wild plum alcohol ink have fine crystal glitter in them as well as the iridescent medium. The picture does not do their gorgeousness justice!

As you can see they are all lovely and shimmery shiny :).

Method
In the bottom of a small jar or container add a small amount of iridescent medium and a few drops of water and mix to the consistency of Farex if you know what that is lol. Um best other comparison I can make is creamed butter and sugar.
Add Triple Thick and mix, add your colour medium of choice a little bit at a time. Better to add to little than too much lol.
If you want to make more of a glimmer glam add glitter of choice. I prefer the fine glitters to chunky glitter but add what ever you prefer of course!

Here is my youtube tutorial.
If there is a medium I haven't covered and you would like me to give it a go, or if there is a combo you have tried that works well please leave me a comment. I am willing to try out different combo's for people if I have the mediums.
Thanks for stopping by.

Just a few extra notes. Glossy Accents works as does Gloss Multi Medium (love it!). If you want a thinner glaze add more water, same as if it has been sitting for too long . . .

DIY Butterflies part 1

I have seen several great butterfly tutorials and so far I have tried two of them.
Tonight I created some butterflies from a youtube video I watched by CreativeKelly4rmCali
 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zzlgh6uKEnk&feature=related

These butterflies are so easy to make. I threw some together on the spur of the moment.  All the flowers I used except for the top most pointy petal one are primas. The pointy petal one is from iamroses. The only requirement is that they be 5 petal flowers.

I misted all of them with my home made glimmer mists. The large black flower was actually a pp prima so I used black soot stain and black home made glimmer mist. I misted first but my mist wasn't dark enough so I grabbed my distress stain. I then painted with triple thick and set the rhinestones in it.

For the rest I used glossy accents to adhere the rhinestones. Please excuse my dingy craft mat lol. Well used :D

As you can see the glue on the purple one hasn't even finished drying :D I wanted to try out different shaped flowers. If I find more different styles i will try them too. So long as it's a 5 petal flower it should work...

Blogs!!!

So I was going to upload some pics of crafty things I had done. But as I recently received my fourth ecraft (this ones working right now touch wood :)), I was adding ecraft blogs to those that I follow. I got carried away in Denise's purplepaperparadise blog catching up on ecraft posts by her lol. So here it is the middle of the night and I am only just getting around to posting lol.

On the upside I was reminded that I need to take my blade cap off to cut the thicker materials and then succeeded in cutting a piece of card I couldn't cut the first day I got my newest ecraft so it was worthwhile to be waylaid lol.

So firstly here is another mini notebook. This one I made for my mum. her favourite colours are red and aqua. It was a bit of a nightmare for me because even though the colours work well together I am not used to working with that much brightness...

I have used the sizzix heart shaped locket die again. I was going to do another opening heart but for some reason my grungeboard and my chipboard ended up being different sizes. I had no problem the first time. They are both painted, maybe I used different paints. But the grunge ended up being at least 1/2 a cm smaller than the chipboard bottom layer. We see a lot of the same elements in this design that we saw in the first design just changed up a little.
The above pic shows the embossing layer, this next pic shows the dangly bits :O
This is a very quick card I threw together for a neighbours lil girls birthday party. Watercolour pencils, prima flowers, triple thick (the bottom flower has one layer of it), pearlex and a quickutz trio stamp were used to make this card.
This next one is for a card I made a couple of hours before going to an 18th birthday party. As I find it hard to do man cards it took me a while to get my head around it, but I got there in the end. This card is also a gift card holder or even a money holder if you want it to be.

As you can see nothing flash but the birthday boy was very happy with it and that's all that counts...

Back to the subject of Blogs again. I have added some blogs that I follow to my sidebar. Some are ecraft bloggers and then there is Tim, can't leave him out as I think aat least 1/4 of my scrap supplies are his lol. Becky Flecks Page Maps. If you don't know who she is check it out. Awesome !!!! Maybe not quite so much. I have found a couple of other utterly brilliant blogs I will add in the near future.

Anyways I best get to bed as its heading towards ungodly o'clock again and I have loads to do when I wake up as usual...lol
