A Little Leafy With Cloud 9 and Archival

Hiya everyone, This month at Ecclectic Ellapu the Purple teams theme is Leaves/Foliage. I have had this great stamp set from Cloud 9, called Leaves, for years and it was still brand new in it's packet lol. So basically as you can see I stamped a pretty much random scattering of leaves about using Archival Inks in Viridian, Potting Soil, Library Green, Watering Can, Plum and Leaf Green. It doesn't show to well in the pic but I didn't clean my stamps in between each colour which in some cases made whole new colours and in others gave a nice mottled effect.

I used a Spellbinders Lacey Square die for my sentiment which is from Inkadinkado's Expessions set. I added some more leaves around the words and mounted the die cut with foam tape for some dimension. A nice easy one this time... Stay tuned though because I also have another more feminine card featuring one of my all time favourite stamp sets :)

Reflection Stamping With Inkadinkado Fall Trees and Distress Inks

I just love refection stamping. This is my first proper attempt at it though and it couldn't be easier! All you need is a cool looking scenery stamp, archival ink, blendable ink pads and a post it note if you want a moon.

First up I stamped my image Fall Trees from Inkadinkado normally onto white cs with archival ink. I then grabbed a piece of acetate (you can also use a smooth stamping block or flat plastic packaging), reinked my stamp with the archival and carefully stamped onto the acetate. Be careful because it will slip slide around if you are not . . . I then turned the acetate upside down so the inked side was down and lined the trees up so they would be reflected and gently rubbed over the image to transfer the ink to the cs.

Using my ink blending tool I grabbed some distress colours I had in my stash to form a sunrise/sunset type colour scheme. I placed my post it "moon" where I wanted it and used makeup sponge wedges to add colour. I started with a festive berries, then ripe persimmon, squeezed lemonade and stormy sky. For the water I used Broken china with little bits of stormy sky here and there.

As I stamped the sentiment it smudged the word friendship a little bit. So I restamped it on a small strip of cs and cut out the word friendship and used foam tape to raise it off the card and make it an accent word. I also had another smudge from the edge of the stamp in the moon so I turned it into a bird and added a couple more.

I trimmed my panel down and added a white piece behind to set off the colours, I thought the orange looked so good I added my panel to an orange card base. I want to make a whole bunch of these as they are so easy!

Metallic Rub-Ons and Anna Griffins Rosa, A Match Made In Heaven!

 So I have an extra post tonight :) I was inspired by the sketch at Freshly Made this week. This is the sketch. I apologise in advance for the pics. I have tried everything I can think of to take some good ones. I tried my regular camera as well as my phone too :(

 

I already had the piece I cut up for the panels and that was as far as I had gotten. When I saw this sketch it was an a-ha moment. It was perfect for the images I had coloured last week! Last week I tried out a technique I saw at a craft show. First I took black cardstock and the Anna Griffin Rosa Cuttlebug folder and ran them through my Ebosser. Next I took Metallic Rub-Ons by Craft-T Productions and for my first attempt I did as the guy at the show did and used finger daubers over the raised images. Whilst it looked OK I wasn't happy with just ok!

The above was done with Cameo Pink, Apple Green and Emerald. I got out the cotton tips/cotton buds/ q tips and set to work again. The advantages o this method are a much better control of the application of rub-on and much less product is used. A significant reduction, I used almost half my cameo pink on the above and hardly any Ruby Red for the one I chose for this card. I cut my Panel to 3 3/4" and then into 1 1/4" strips and then cut a plain black strip as well.

I think this is actually the best pic I have of the colouring! Next up I chose some stardream paper in as close a colour to the red flowers as I could get. I trimmed it to fit inside my square card base nicely (roughly 4 1/4 square) and also cut a strip to layer on top of my black strip.

Next I chose my sentiment from Inkadinkados Sending Wishes stamp set. I trimmed "love in bloom," it seemed appropriate, from the bottom of the wedding cake and stamped it with Distress Embossing ink and used Hampton Arts Black embossing powder from the Primary Collection. I then used double sided tape to adhere all my layers.

I can say and honestly mean it today, the photos just don't do this justice it looks so much better in real life but I did the best I could with the equipment I have . . . I love this technique, so much so I want to invest in some Inca Gold so I can shine the flowers up and see how they look :) But for the moment I will continue to play with the sets I have. I have all four sets of the Craf-T rub-ons. I did a purple panel as well, I am thinking maybe I will utilise this sketch again as they are shown off perfectly with it. Anyway enough of my waffling!

Something For Teacher With Sandylion Stickers

I thought I would try for a more CAS project this week and I had the perfect stickers for the theme. The only trouble I had was finding a table svg so I found this free file here and imported it into SCAL 3. As it would have cut all those lines I made a shadow layer and cut that out instead. I used a white cs base with a very light cream matte on top of that. Anything darker made the table fade into the background. The stickers are all from Sandlylion and have foam dots behind them already to pop them off the card.You can see the shadows from them being raised off the card below.

Both the table and the blackboard background are cut from a brown batik paper that I thought would work well as wood :). I used Lifestyle Crafts nesting squares to cut the table and blackboard background. I stamped a Thank You from an Inkadinkado set with Cotton White Opaque Stazon. I added a square of cs under the batik layer of the blackboard to reinforce it so I could add some very thin foam tape underneath. The twine is from hemptique

The best bit is I have enough stickers left in this set to make a girly back to school or graduation card :) I hope you like my more simplified project this week for Eclectic Ellapu !

PS sorry I have been so absent of late! I have had a whole lot going on plus I just got alcohol markers and have been busy learning a whole new skill set. I started with promarkers and trias, then I got lucky and someone was selling an almost complete set of Ciao's on ebay that got here on Tuesday. I have been colouring up a storm! Need to make use of some of those images so I can show you!

Pattern Play Day Three Using Antique Rose Papers

For day three of Pattern Play I decided to try out Kristina Werners tips. I chose a paper from the KaiserCraft Antique Rose collection and cut it into 2cm strips. I used an off cut from another card with some washi tape to make a straight edge to help me layout and adhere my strips of paper.

 

 Next I grabbed a Cuttlebug Cut and Emboss folder. I am not sure what it's called sorry :( but it makes some lovely labels. I grabbed a subtle pp from the antique rose pad to make my label. I tried using distress stain to highlight the raised edges but that didn't work very well. Later I used some snow cap paint dabber mixed with a little water on the raised edges. The sentiment is from Inkadinkados Chelsea Sentiments.

Next I decide it looked a little plain so I cut a butterfly from the same pp as the background with Tim Holtz's movers and shapers from Sizzix. I chose a piece that was mostly blue so I could bring that colour in a bit more instead of it just being a little bit on the edge. I added some orange bling to the centre with Matte Accents as my Multi-Medium Matte ran away lol. I felt it could do with that little bit extra . . .

I used a small strip of  foam tape to raise the butterfly off the label a little bit. I was very overwhelmed with how bold and bright this paper is, but I have to say I think I like how this card turned out :)

KaiserCraft Technologic in Black and White

Well todays card came about because of a sketch and a couple of other challenges. The sketch is from 613 Avenue Create. I changed the oval to label as I didn't have an oval to fit my robot. I have been itching to use this set ad thought this would be the perfect op. this is the sketch . . .

Today I started from the top and worked my way down. First up I chose a piece of Core'donations from Tim Holtz, black with the kraft core and used my one of my Lifestyle Crafts Labels dies, the inner die, to cut it in my cuttlebug.

I used the spellbinders tan mat as well to add some extra definition to the edges for the nest step. I used the Tim Holtz sanding block to sand off a fair bit of the black. Especially around those edge bits.

I grabbed the brushed pewter Distress Stain and covered the entire piece (don't worry if you do this and can't see through it lol), I spritzed with water and blotted with paper towel and kept repeating til I removed most of the stain and left a soft shimmer once dried. Next I use weathered wood stain over the entire piece, depends on how much colour is wanted whether spritzing before drying is needed. I chose to spritz and lift a little colour with the paper towel.

I stamped my image next, but before I did I made sure I had the stamp mounted and everything positioned where I needed it because I needed to work fast. I re-inked my Stazon Metallic Silver ink pad and inked up my robot from the KaiserCraft Technologic stamp set and stamped him on my label. This is actually take two as the first attempt I didn't shake my re-inker enough first lol.

Next I decided to carry on with a bit more silver. I grabbed some silver shimmer paper and set to making the banner portion of the sketch. I used a sentiment from Inkadinkados Chelsea Sentiments. I wanted the sentiment on two lines so I snipped it in half before stamping with Archival Jet Black. The cogs and heartbeat are from the technologic set. I also decided at this point the card would be black and I would add a silver mat between my card base and my patterned paper that I hadn't chosen yet lol.

So I went searching through a bunch of stacks to find the perfect pp. At the very back of the Black and White Timeless KaiserCraft stack I found something I thought would work, it reminds me of a maths book lol. It was a very plain piece so I decided to add some stamping. I really wanted to use the barcode in the Technologic set so I stamped that first and then created a border around the rest of the piece with the two cogs in the set. The barcode says "Boys will be boys" at the bottom.

At the last minute I decided to mount the silver banner on some black cs to give it a bit more definition and then added it to the card with tape. The robot is mounted with foam tape for some dimension. I noticed after I took this pic that the end of the banner was sticking up, so I popped some tape under to get it to stay down lol.

 This I think is one of the first black and white cards I have made that doesn't feature flowers :) Hope you like my Robot Card!

Another Hero Arts Watercolor Petals Card

When I stamped these flowers from the Hero Arts Watercolor Petalsfor the Simon Says Challenge in blue I decided to stamp them a couple more times as well. As you can see this time I stamped them in pink for a pink and black challenge. This time I used the Faber Castell-Big Brush Markers in Pink Madder Lake, Magenta, May Green and Chromium Green Opaque. I stamped first generation then misted with water for the second and third gen stamping. I used the Lifestyle Crafts Frame die in black cs to frame the image.

For the sentiment I used a butterfly stamp from the same stamp set coloured with the two pinks and Dark Sepia. This is a second gen stamping of the butterfly. I then Cut it out with a Lifestyle Crafts Labels Die and added Black Gelato around the edges and blended with a paintbrush. I aded more and bended with my finger. I decided I wanted  things to sparkle so at this point I started adding my home made shimmer spray to things lol. You can see a tiny bit  of shimmer  in the pics. I added a border around the label in the same pink as the base of the card and used foam tape on both layers.

In this pic you can see how under the label is a piece of pink cs I stamped with the watercolour butterfly using lightly misted black gelato. I only put gelato on the stamp twice to go round the whole mat piece, I just lightly misted after each stamping. I also added black gelato around the whole card base. The sentiment from inkadinkado is stamped with archival.

In this pic you can see how the ribbon I chose has an off whitish pattern on it. I wanted to change it up so I grabbed my big brush markers in the same colours I stamped my flowers and coloured them. You need to colour a section, heat set it and go over it again til you get the colours you like.

I decided I wanted to give this card to my mum for her birthday next month. I bought her two tickets to see The Seekers in May and wanted to add them into the card. So I made a little pocket to tuck them in to. I stamped the butterfly again using my markers onto pink cs to add to the pocket and misted it. As I was stamping on the pink cs this time I used Dark Sepia as the butterfly body colour. On the opposite side I stamped a Fiskars sentiment in archival.

I really hope she likes the card even though it is very pink lol. Her fave colour is red but I do remember growing up with her having pink bed spreads and things so should be all good!

Jemima and Peter Came Out To Play

Well hello there :) As I promised a couple of days ago Jemima and Peter are coming out to play and I will show you two lovely cards I made with these stamps :) They don't have their sentiments yet as the small congratulation stickers are in a cupboard that's behind a box or two at the moment lol...

Both Peter and Jemima have been watercoloured with distress markers and the background stamping was done with distress inks. Peter has two layers whereas Jemima has three. Still contemplating adding another layer to Peter lol.

Jemima's card is mostly done with worn lipstick. I am really hoping in the Summer Distress colours we get a new pink... Somewhere between spun sugar and worn lipstick lol. Probably not though hehehe. I cannot even begin to speculate on what our new colours will be, after all we have had red, yellow, green, blue, purple, orange and brown covered already... Maybe another green, an orange or red perhaps.. lol Can't wait to find out!!! Jemima's background is Inkadinkado's Dot Flourishes.

Peter is mostly coloured with Tumbled Glass and pumice stone and his background is done with an Autumn Leaves stamp set.

Now to switch it up my final card today is made using an outline sticker and vellum and coloured with distress markers. I fussy cut my rose and adhered to a white oval and then a red oval. I added an oval tag at the top and some ribbon strips to the card base which has been stamped with Stampin' Up background stamp with adirondack ink. I am thinking maybe it needs a bow at the bottom to give it a lift lol...

Artfully Asian

I recently got an order I placed at an Aussie Craft shop and I managed to snag an awesome cuttlebug embossing folder for $2 (Shocked face). The folder is strings of paper lanterns. Anyway my first idea was to use this with my fiskars asian set which has a paper lantern stamp in it. So I did that. I wanted to see what else I could do with it so I went through my stamp sets and found and Inkadinkado Asian set.

First up I started with a black card base. I then took a piece of red Kraft core Core'dinations from the distress stack and placed it in my folder and ran it through the cuttlebug. I used my TH sanding block to reveal the kraft core and distressed the edges with my tonic distress tool.

I then used some kraft coloured cardstock to stamp the image of an asian lady with archival jet black. I stamped her on scrap paper to make a mask to cover her while I stamped the bamboo. I used Faber Castells for the bamboo as I did not want the colour to run when I coloured the lady. To watercolour the lady I used permanent carmine scribbled on my non stick craft sheet and a Tim Holtz waterbrush.

A few more quick cards to share. This first one uses K & Co paper and tan cardstock. I made two like this from the same sheet of paper, the first is love bsed the second is travel based. Very quick cards indeed . . .

The next card uses some more K & Co paper  and some bugs coloured with Faber Castells cut out, painted with homemade glimmer glaze and mounted on squares edged with distress ink :)

I Used a Doily!!!!

A personal challenge of mine has been to incorporate doilies into cards and pages. I managed the page a while back but had yet to incorporate one into a card. Well . . . Today was the day :) Yay! Being Tuesday I was creating at my friends today :) and took the doilies along with me.

I started with an image from Mpress stamps that I had already watercoloured with my faber castell markers onto watercolour paper. I used some Peacock Feathers distress stain around the edges of the image and then set about finding some papers to go with my image. This is always the hard part for me lol. I found some in the Kaisercraft Bonjour 6" stack and used this as my main piece.

I coloured a white doily using a combination of the two pinks I used to colour my roses, middle purple pink 125 and pink madder lake 129, I scribbled them on my ranger non stick craft sheet and spritzed with home made shimmer in perfect pearl colour, then I used a Tim Holtz water brush to colour it. I did the same for the flowers from I Am Roses only this time I used one colour at a time. I used white and very dark brown cardstock to layer my image on as well as added some foam tape for dimension. The flowers are glued down with glossy accents and so are the twizzles. The sentiment is from an inkadinkado stamp set.

Next up I am going to show you a couple of quick and simple cards I made in an effort to be more productive and also do some simpler less detailed cards. The first is made with some fiskars birthday stamps, K & Co paper and coloured with Faber Castells.

Next up is a nice boys card made with more K & Co paper and Fiskars Bug stamps. Coloured again with Faber Castells. All edges on this card and the previous card are done with distress inks :)

Bright Cheerful Mothers Day Card

Hiya :)


My Distress Markers are here!!! So to celebrate I knocked up a card :) It turned into a lovely mothers day card.

I started with vellum, I stamped it with sunflower yellow Stazon with a stamp from the urban chic set, I then ran it through the bug using the Tim Holtz Ornamental Movers and Shapers Die. I used some silver butterfly stickers and stuck them on the vellum. I then used my Distress Markers in mustard seed, spiced marmalade, barn door and chipped sapphire to colour in the butterflies.

The sentiment is from inkadinkado stamped onto yellow cs and then cut with an oval lifestyle crafts die. I used my distress tool and distressed the edges first in spiced marmalade, then in barn door. While the distressing was sttill wet I went around the edge with perfect pearls in perfect pearl. I used foam tape to pop the oval off the card. To adhere the vellum down I hid tape behind the butterflys, sentiment and roses.

The roses are resin roses I got in a bag of 100 from ebay. I covered them in perfect medium and then added some perfect pearls over the top with perfect pearl. I glued them on with glossy accents. I chose a white cs card base and used my Distress marker in chipped sapphire to give a grungy boarder as I don't yet have that in a stamp pad.

Embossing Folders and Markers!

Hello crafters of the world :) lol

Today I want to share a video with you on making embossed and coloured backgrounds using markers. As I said in my last post, I don't have matching Tim Holtz stamps and folders and as they run into high numbers to buy I don't see me buying any anytime soon. I decided to try and find a way to get a similar look without owning the stamps.

I have texturz from sizzix.

Cuttlebug folders.

And finally Texture Fades.

Any embossing folder or plate that you can use in a sizzix or cuttlebug or any other machine will work for this technique as well. Darice, spellbinders etc.

The next photo shows a mix of markers I have tried. Still waiting for my distress markers. Can't wait to try them and to co-ordinate them with the distress stains!

I am still learning as i go with this. I just couldn't find any info on the web about this and thought I would share. I hope this helps some more people out!

12 Cards of Christmas T!m Holtz Style Card 12

So here I am at card 12. Yay I made it :) I made a huge mistake though and that makes me sad. I just didn't have the time or enough Star Dust Stickles left to fix it. Moving on lol. I used what I had again to create this card, keeping the techniques I liked and going with the flow :) Hope you like it. Wow never had so much creative focused energy in one month lol... This last card was inspired by T!m's 12t tag and as you can see mine is very very different lol.

Card 12


I started by using an old book my eldest daughter gave me to canabalise. I took one page and slathered Multi-Medium Matte all over it. I adhered it to a piece of cardstock and moved and scrunched it about as T!m did with his tissue paper. I was going to stamp some tissue paper my sister had given me but it was Missing in action from all the Christmas bruhaha lol.

I then painted book page with home made glimmer glaze. This mix is iridescent medium, glossy accents and fired brick (I have just started using Multi- Medium Gloss for this and love it!). I waited fro it to dry, which doesn't take long, then dripped more glaze over the light spots to give the splotchy effect.

I used the snowflake images found on SCAL 3 again. I cut these in several sizes with printer paper til I was happy with the size. Especially the one I was going to add a facet to.

I then used my eCraft to cut some plastic packaging (from lifestyle craft dies) into snow flakes. The packaging is a good bit thicker than acetate. I adhered the plastic to a stabiliser with removable tape so it wouldn't slide around. If you don't it slides all over and you end up with a big mess!!! I used pressure setting 7. Cuts  like a dream :)

I grabbed some different colours of alcohol inks and my pearl mixative and did a few testers on some scrap packaging from around the snow flakes. I chose to use Aqua/Pearl Mixative to colour them. I coloured and coloured with my Tim Holtz tool and my inks til I achieved a colour I liked. Some spots were too light so I went over them til I got it right!

I decided they were still too plain so I added some Star Dust Stickles to the snowflakes. I covered the two smaller ones and only did around the outside of the larger one.

I grabbed my Cotton White Stazon and some snow flake stamps. The large one is from Inkadinkado and the small from Stampin' Up. I reinked one end of my stamp pad then used the large stamp on my book page a couple of times. I then took the smaller stamp and filled in some spots.

On some scrap card I stamped my small sentiment. I made sure it was small enough to see through the facet before I stamped it. It's a fiskars stamp. I used black stazon ink.

I then went over this with my fired brick glaze, after it dried I used some glossy accents to adhere my large circle Facet down. I pressed down hard gave it a bit of a swirl then made sure it was positioned just so. I used some paper towel to wipe away the excess glossy. My only issue with this is that even though my glaze was made with glossy accents adding glossy as a glue seemed to leech colour from my glaze :(

I cut around the facet and then used more glossy to stick it to my snow flake.

I grabbed some white and blue cardstocks and palyed around with them to see what combo I liked better. My eldest daughter decided the blue was the matte and the white was the card. I used my Fired Brick Distress pad to add a teeny border around the white card. I used the pad direct to card, no tool.

I used double sided tape to adhere my book page layer to the blue cardstock. I piled everything on top to see how it looked and felt it was missing some magic. I went to clker.com to get an icicle svg and made a template out of plastic and cut it with my eCraft. I then used stickles in star dust to add icicles to my card base. This is where I made my big mistake :( Shhhh I won't tell if you won't lol. I also added a border of sorts. The template was larger than in the pic but i flipped it and cut it to do the last part.

I used foam tape on all off the snow flakes. The larger and smaller have thicker tape and the middle size flower has thinner tape on them to give dimension. I then stuck them to my card and Job done. 12 cards is finito. Cannot believe I got it done in my first year at having a go but there you have it :)

Ta Daaaaaa, All done. Happy dance :). Upload the last card to T!m's Blog and then I can put this baby to bed. Wow I am relieved it's over. For someone who has barely crafted much in the last year that was pretty full on for me. A great way to get back in the swing of things and be inspired to try out a whole heap of my new products!
